ECU, Wiring, Sensors

#175165 ok guys, i need some advice and help pretty badly...

i have a 95 civic ej2, it was in horrible shape when i got it, with a d16a6 motor and trans in it, a blown headgasket, and p06 ecu, and i belive a d16a6 wiring harness...so, ive bought a running parts car, with a d16z6 vtec, spun rod bearing. ive taken the complete vtec head off, with the dizzy and intake manifold still attatched to the head, and put it in top dead center, i put my a6 block in top dead center, put on a new z6 headgasket, sealed it with some headgasket stuff called indian head, and torqued down the headbolts. i hooked up everuuthing i could find that needed hooked up: vacuum lines, plugs, sensors, fuel lines, ect...i put a battery on, put the radiator on, put 3 quarts of oil into it, then plugged up a stock p28 ecu, and hit the key...it started and ran good, idled just a lil bit up and down, but not bad at all..i added coolant, got it all ready to drive. revved it up a few times, seeing what it had...ran great..THEN, i started pulling out into the road, as i gained speen and went up in rpms, the car starts sputtering and bogging, and wont rev over 3000rpms...but i can hold in the clutch, and rev it to the moon...im stumped..i think its limp mode, but whats causing it? i know the dizzy, plugs, wires and ecu are good, the car they were in ran perfect til it spun a bearing, then it was parked immediately, so there is no damage to the head at all. i may have hooked a couple plugs on the harness to the wrong sensors...also, i still havent wired up my vtec, but i dont think that should matter?? also ive heard that since im trying to use a stock p28 ecu with a mini me motor, i have to get the ecu chipped or tuned or something?? im not completely new to hondas and swaps, but im new to putting my own motor together and into my car with no help from mechanics or professionals...im on a tight budget, therefore i try to do everything i need to do on my own...could u guys help me here??? pics of a z6 intake manifold with the sensors labeled would help me greatly..i cant find one anywhere..like what are those sensors on the throttle body? and what are the 2 or 3 on the back of the intake called cuz i broke the nipple off that one on tge top back of it, the black one, on accident...but it was never hooked up on my a6 motor..not sure why...any help appreciated

Nope, the stock P28 will do just fine :thumb:

First thing to do is check for your engine codes (assuming you have a check engine light)
There's a sticky thread at the top of the Electrical section on how to do it and what the codes mean.

Do that and let us know the codes and we'll be able to help you figure out what may be wrong. it may be as simple as having your MAP sensor and TPS sensors backwards.

#175178 i did that and the only codes i seem to be gettin are 19 and 21...i know 19 is the auto lock, and i know i have it because my p28 is auto and my car is 5spd..and i know the 21 is vtec solenoid valve, which makes sense because i havent wired up the vtec yet...im waiting til i can afford a whole ex wiring harness to do the vtec, or until i can find someone to wire it up for me, cause i have no electrical experience at all...the car may not be in actual limp mode, i mean it runs fine til i try to drive it, then starts sputtering and bogging and carrying on...which leads me to believe its more of a sensor or intake vacuum leak problem..like i mentioned above, the car was a hack job when i got it, some vac lines to and from the charcoal canister arent hooked up, they are blocked off because i have no clue where they go, and one or 2 sensors on the back of my intake manifold arent hooked up i dont think, or arent hooked to the right plugs..

#175266 Do you have a Helms or Chilton's manual? They have diagrams for vacuum lines, electrical sensors etc.

If you have an important sensor unplugged it will throw a CEL. There's a Evap Purge that you don't have to have plugged in on these cars. But your jumping idle is most likely a vacuum leak, so find the open or cracked vac line and fix that first.

here's a vacuum diagram... never mind the red type over it:

I'd say first fix the known problems you have. It's tough to diagnose problems when you have other problems to fix first.

#175286 that diagram is impossible for me to read, i cant tell what is wat by lookin at that man, i need a real picture with arrows labeling which sensors are which, that doesnt even look close to anything i can use

#175350 we had a thread like that but the links are all broken :(

Why don't you take a pic of the sensor(s) you're unsure of and we'll ID them for you :thumb:

#175366 because i dont have a camera...but anyway heres an update:

i went out and started messin with it today, started it up, advanced timing on dizzy, got it to idle perfect when its warm, no bouncing or up and down or nothing, 800 rpms smooth idle, using my p06 ecu. but, when i rev it, it revs fine, but when im driving, if i barely give it gas, it accelerates like it should and dont bog down, but when the throttle reaches a certain position, it starts cutting down and bogging? no backfire, or popping, knocking, pinging, anything like that. also, the cel threw code 14, i IACV...but mine is hooked up. would the iacv being bad cause my car to run like this???
