ECU, Wiring, Sensors
By Outlaw
#78982 Hey all, just picked up a 94 VX hatch with an Ls/vtec swap and am trying to figure out the computer and wiring issues. This is the first import I've ever really messed with, all my other cars have been fuel hungry domestics with no wires or ecms so theres going to be a bit of a learning curve with this one.

Its a B18A1 block, PR3-1 head, I believe a GSR trans but don't know where to look for the numbers to be sure, OBD1 ECM 37820-P28-AO2. I'd really like to replace or rewire the engine bay harness cause the previous owner did a hack job and its a freaking rats nest.. Also wondering if there are separate harnesses for the chassis and engine or if its one in the same?

#79005 there are seperate harnesses there is one that connects from one strut tower to the other (engine harness) and the other harness is somewhat connected to the interior harness that goes all the way down to your headlights but im thinking i just didnt see the plug for that....

And yea you may be running bad due to you have the wrong ecu....P28 is SOHC vtec unless it was chipped its not going to run perfectly. just get the ecu that matches your head

Also make sure that the sensors on that block have been switched over to obd1 since the B18A1 is that of obd0 out of the 2nd gen tegs 90-93

And p.s. good luck with the car it will be pretty easy just dont get over your head thats when you tend to mess up

#79022 depending on how much of a rat's nest your harness is, it might be worth the ~$75 for an uncut used harness. nothing is worse than trying to fix someone's hack job.

#79699 I was looking at the harness and there don't seem to be to many alterations to it, the covering has been pulled off most of it and the alarm and other accessory wiring was trying to be concealed among it and just looks like hell.

I opened up the ECM as well. Some one has been in there too.. It has a 28-pin dip socket, SN74HC373N chip and some ceramic capacitors and resisters soldered in, but from what I've read up on chipping these things the capacitors and resisters are of the wrong values.
Are different parts used for chipping different ECMs or is it a standard setup they all get?
