So its time for me to get some new brake shoes, but some of the aftermarket ones also come with new drums. Is it necessary to change the drums? My car is a '94 civic lx w/ 111k on it if that helps.

depends really if you inspect and theres lips or a rigged surface (should be smooth) then its time to replace drums are like rotors in that respect you need asmoothish surface to brake properly....now i say smoothish because if theres a tiny lip then you should be alright in keeping those drum....

just inspect for cracks as well and replace if needed.....

just take the old drums down to the local machine shop or brake shop
and have them check for out of round and hot stops.. if they're in spec have them machine/turn them.. it shouldnt cost that much, i get them done for 7 bucks a rotor and drum.. and save the new drums for when it is time to replace the drums :thumb:
