Pre-rust treatment

- Tue Dec 09, 2008 5:27 am #82721 I have a new fender for my 95 civic When I bought it , it has a little surface rust on the factory primer. I Sanded it down to the bare metal and now theres rust debris everywhere and I dont think I can get everything off. Before I paint a primer how should I kill the rust.

- Tue Dec 09, 2008 5:43 am #82724 do a search on google for "rust inhibitor" there's some companies that make exactly what you need.

Rust Bullet is one of them that comes to mind. There's still a chance it will return though, often they rust from the inside out so the surface is just the tip of the iceberg.

- Tue Dec 09, 2008 4:26 pm #82777 Rust inhibiters are usually pure shite. Sand it back till ALL the rust is gone, if its just surface rust it shouldnt take long to get rid of it all. Use an etch primer on the bare metal areas and the rust shouldn't return
