F**ked Fiber

Well this is the Vis carbon fiber hood thats on the wifes EK. As you can see its a total mess! The hood itself is about 2 years old, and was waxed about every other month since its been on the car.

Basically this is what intense UV rays will do to C/F. The sun seems to always be out here in Arizona, and temps can go as high as 117*. The suns powerfull UV rays just pound on the finish all day long, and eventually does its damage.

Even though the hood only two years old, its looked like ass for about the past year. So now I'm gonna just have it clearcoated, nice and thick! When I wash the car, and the hoods wet, it looks brand new. Then as it dries, it looks like hell again. So I'm fully expecting that clearcoat will improve the situation.

I'll keep updating this thread with pics as the hood gets re-finished. :thumb:

I dont think that polish will do what needs to be done. The gelcoat finish that the hood originally came with is basically gone. Its almost down to the C/F weave itself!! On the corner, up by the drivers side window, the weave is actually exposed a lil bit.

I've been slowly doing it myself with rattle cans. Its turning out pretty well, I've still got some wet sanding to do, and a few more coats of clear to go. :thumb:

Did you see JDM-Chick's CF DIY in the Exterior section? This hood can look good as new when it is all done :thumb:

Yeah, I've basically been doing the same thing. It still needs a ton of wet sanding, but I think its gonna look 100x better than what it did. :thumb:

yeah once the weaves on a cf hood gets messed up theres no saving it anymore... so yeah u got the right idea for just wanting to paint it... :thumb:
