#139172 why because they are plastic?

I have seen HID's in plastic housing headlights before with no problems.
However if you are using the oem fluted lens headlights, your light output will not be good and you will bling oncoming drivers with the glare that they put out. You need clear see thru lenses minimum and projector or retrofit for the best results.

ps. more descriptive thread titles please. I usually ignore the vague titles like "help" or "question" but it's a slow day

#139176 But will it melt or warp the head light cuz it's a oem JDM head light

#139179 that's a lil better title

I never tried it, but I don't think they would melt. people put HID's into oem headlights that didn't come with them all the time

#139338 No it won't. HID bulbs uses less wattage compared to a halogen bulb, therefor, it produces less heat. I recommend you do a retrofit though. As the design of the OEM headlights scatter the light beams everywhere you don't need it and also blinding oncoming traffic. #139353 stupid hid's....

yes, the plastic will melt inside the headlight, not much, but enough to get a blurry light out of your headlights. In europe you wont get through the yearly car check. (APK in holland)

It will not melt the plastic, HID bulbs emit less heat then Halogen bulbs

no, an OEM D2S HID bulb will reach a maximum operating temp of 700C at the arching point. the bulb base will be about 240C(link for reference here) Where the Halogen bulb reach's a maximum of 1000C at the filament(but the bulb itself will only be about 600C)(reference here), Therefore the HID will not warp it.

You know i've never looked up the actual operating temps before lol

#139404 posted this on HIDPlanet, and here is your answer

gearbox wrote:its not really fair to compare. hid is plasma, so the bulb itself runs thousands of times hotter than a halogen filament that is only around 400F average. its the way the heat is transferred that is more important. hids do not really emit more heat even tho the plasma is intensely hot. i have done temp readings, and my H3 metal halogen fogs made it up to 250F outside bowl temp (these are open-air fogs in the bumper). then i measured my 50w e46 hid retro which are very small projectors and the temp at the bowl was only 200F. and this is at 50w input power mostly enclosed in a headlamp! i have taken bowl temp readings of acura TL and TSX projectors in open air after 15-20 mins of run time and the hottest temps i saw were roughly 125F. so to answer your question, hids will not heat up surrounding areas anywhere near as much as halogens do.
