Patching rust

Hello,

I'm new here.
I just bought a "winter beater" 92 Civic EX Sedan. So, my question about repairing rust will likely be much different than how to restore your pride and joy. ;)

That said, I'm looking to repair some fender rust that has created a hole in the rear driver side fender. I'm just thinking if there's something I can do to quickly take care of it for this winter, get it through inspection, and last until summer when I can do more to it. I'm not looking to invest much into the car, but still want to make it look as best as I can.
I understand that unless you cut out the rust, it will stay there and keep chewing up the body. I've read through the very helpful threads on doing the proper way.

Any tips for my situation? Body filler, duct tape, rocker guard paint? :)

Thanks!

best straight forward way to get rid of the problem is just to replace it instead of bondoing it just makes it worser

do it right the first time, weld in some new metal. if you just want to cover it up its going to make it worse in the long run.

lol duct tape for the budget repair!

Or fiberglass will last longer for not much more $$$, until you have time to replace the sheet metal with a new section.

Do you have any DYI similar to your excellent post on sheet metal option?

Is it pretty much the same method of putting it into place?

Thanks!

Objective: pass inspection! :)

Any help how to make it happen would be appreciated.

where do you live that rusty cars won't pass inspection? certainly not Ohio!

(I have a set of L and R sedan replacement quarter panels for sale that would work perfect on your car, $90 + shipping)

Yes, the inspection regulations got tougher here in Nova Scotia (Canada) this year. Rust is ok, but no holes in any panels. :(

Thanks for the offer on the panels. I'll see what I can find locally first.

I think some fiberglass and duct tape patchwork to pass inspection is on order first and then I'll look around to do it right.
