Bit of help with painting...

Been reading a lot of the how to's on here and they've been a great help, so thanks a lot everyone, especially teal_dx 8)

Ive been messing about trying to sort out my rust etc ever since i bought my car, ive never been shown what to do so its been trial and error really... turned out well sometimes and rubbish other times

Im planning on giving the whole car a once over since summers coming up and ill be off uni, but need a bit of advice before i start...

So first up i have to fill any dents etc, that bits okay...

But for primer, is the normal grey primer okay to use or should i use a different colour? (my cars teal)

After ive primed, you rub it down then put colour on, but do you colour sand before you put a lacquer on, or just spray on the lacquer on top of the colour?

After ive put the laquer on, is a week long enough to leave it before lightly sanding it and polishing?

Any help is very appreciated :D

What do you mean by color and lacquer? Is lacquer another term for clear coat over there?

Told you id give you a hand buddy. And white primers the best for showing off bright colours, also after you have applied the base thats when the laquer goes on. You can put about 4 layers of laquer on(maybe more) and then use very very fine paper like p1800 and cut back the laquer to get any impurities out and then buff it and polish it. Hope this helps man, if you need help just bring it here with all the shit you think u need and ill give you a hand :)

the OEM primer is a light grey on our Teal cars. as Lambert said, A lighter primer will make the final color seem brigher
