So you want it to come on any time a door or the hatch is open? Assuming you have it wired how I told you, cut the wire between the light and the ground on the latch, insert a 1 amp diode inline with the stripe facing the latch side. Then run a wire from your thick green/red door trigger wire in the driver's side door jamb, again with another inline diode stripe facing the door trigger wire and branch that into the aforementioned wire in between it's diode and the light.

#225551 If you think that is complicated, you should try tying your own shoes sometime.

suspendedHatch wrote:The coupes and sedans have carpeted trunks with no cut-outs for the trunk light. That's why I posted it in this forum. The wiring would be the same but you would need to mount it to the bottom of the rear deck like what you see in the 01 Civic coupe any many others.

This is incorrect. The Coupes and Sedans have a mount for a trunk light approximately where the rear window meets the body at centre, on the under-side of the trunk room area. Only certain higher-end models got them: USDM EX Coupe, and LX & EX Sedans, and CDM Si Coupe, and EX & EX-V Sedans.

Part number is 34260-SV1-A01 or 34260-SV4-A01 depending on your VIN.

#256503 Was at pull a part today and I found a hatch light in a 1989 CRX
It has two prongs on the back of the light
This seems easy, as far as I have seen so far its just two wires
Optional fuse wire and a tapped trunk light wire
What are the proper prongs to connect the wires to?

#273019 Reviving a old thread with a question. The festoon went out some time ago and I finally got around to replacing it and I seem to be having an issue with the wiring.

Now that the light works it is always on. It no longer engages with the hatch open/close switch. I know the switch still works since the cluster light comes on.

Anyone have any idea on whats going on before I go tearing into my interior plastics?

#274055 I have a uk DX, The loom for the trunk light was factory taped up to the inner quarter panel. Are they all not like that?

#274121 I was always told that they are simply not wired in, the signal wire (hatch open) was just tapped into to get the light to work. That's how all the DIY's are written. I'll look since I have to get in there anyway.

#274208 For the light to be always on, the signal wire must be permanently grounded. Does your light have a switch on it? If so, then it's probably wired to ground instead of to the latch.

#274236 That's the thing though. When I installed the light it worked perfect. It would turn on once I popped the hatch glass and off when I closed it. Later down the road, the festoon went out and I ignored it since I wasn't really needing the light. When I finally went to replace the bulb it ended up staying on for a few hours because I changed it in the day. I didn't notice that it was on till later that evening when I saw the rear glowing. It would turn off with the switch but not with the hatch glass closing.

#307906 i just did this using the trunk light from my old lx sedan :woot: . only thing i found off was the trigger wire in the diy says green/black wire, did that and light stayed on. in my 92 vx the right wire was green with silver dots. :? works great now :thumb:

#308302 There will be slight variations between models and that's why you must always verify all wires with a multimeter.

Thanks for the info!

#313421 Just did this yesterday thanks for the write up suspendedHatch, i also had to tap solid green wire with silver dots for the light to work with the hatch opening. I have a 92 cx, just wanted to share because everyone who googles "hatch light install" is brought here.
