no matter if its hot or cold sometimes i can get into my car and try to start it up, but all it does is crank...after diagnosing it i noticed the times it doesnt start, my fuel pump isnt priming...is this a common fix for hondas, or is it definately my fuel pump. im hoping its somesort of relay, but any help is better than none...thanks everyone

It is usually the main relay which is under the driver's side dash near the hood release. You can usually re-solder them or buy a new one for about $60. They all seem to go bad after a while. Do a search on here for "Main and Relay" and you'll get lots of results

ohhhhh man....thats what i was afraid of...i thought that might be what it was because i can peck around the fuse box and it works....any places off the top of your head that i can get a main relay for about 60 $..i work at a local advance auto parts and the cheapest i can get one for is around 100$.. thanks for the help teal

no need to re-wire the fuel pump, just replace the main relay. I got mine from the dealership a couple yrs ago for $60.

If you haven't already found one from the dealer, you should be able to snag one from eBay, or if you're lucky, a junk yard. In that sense, by "lucky" I mean finding a car that has it (I believe 94+ Civics and 93+ Integras? Someone correct me because I'm most likely wrong) and if you do find a car, the Main Relay still being in the car and not suffering from the same problem.

I have this problem myself, and I still haven't taken care of it . When I first diagnosed it I was short on cash and not ready to put out much money for anything. At this point in time, I've now saved up money to where I might buy something newer (looking for a 1999 EX Coupe) and am not looking to spend on my EG hatch.

Back on topic, how does your problem occur? Mine usually goes like this - crank it once for 1-2 seconds, let it rest, crank again and it immediately turns over.

Im sure you can find one at the junkyard. and there must be a way to test it with continuity or something teal may know. you may even get lucky at the junkyard and they will give it to you.

idk....ive been rocking the key back and forth about 3 or 4 times and its been working...theres one junkyard close to where i live and its about an hour away...this junkyard is outragous on prices...ide hate to see what the guy there would charge me for the relay..he charged me 200$ for a door that had a lot of dents on it..however i didnt care because it wasnt me that was paying for it..the owner of a 2008 ford f-150 who backed into my door was ...but yeah, ill shop around and see what i can dig up.

a lot of times just re-soldering the pins on the relay fixes this problem.

hmmmmm...okay, will the pins that i need to solder be obvious? seems like every relay that ive seen broken is internally broken.

How could a relay be internally broken? You mean like physically broken? You're crazy.

These relays are common as dirt in the junkyards. No one ever takes them. Go to a "pick your own part" type junkyard. Bring a flat blade screwdriver and a 10mm. Put it in your pocket, or just pay for it. They wont charge you more than $5. And yes the Integra is exactly the same as the Civic.

The 94+ relays were from a different company and don't have the problem with the cracked solder joints. But if you're in a bind, just grab whatever you can find

Most Honda people piss their panties with anything having to do with electrical, so I don't trust you to resolder the joints. You'll probably cold solder them or overheat the solder. But yes, it can be done.

when i said internally broken, i mean you could shake the relay and stuff would shake around inside of it. There is one junkyard within 4 hours of me that has honda's and acuras. the guy that runs it wont let you pick your own parts...he charges by the hour and how hard it is to get off. my next day i have off ill take the relay out and take it apart and attempt to fix it.

Maybe you could talk someone here into mailing you one. If I was going to the junkyard anytime soon I'd swipe one for you.
