I have 93 Civic CX that I just recently purchased, and it appears to be spitting oil out of the exhaust and tail pipe as I have oil residue on the back bumper. I have wiped it clean, changed the oil, and air filter, which had a lot of black build up on it. What could be causing the oil to come out of the tail pipe?

Maybe the stem seals have worn, or piston rings?

How long should the carbon build up last?

Are you sure it is engine oil? It could just be black sooty water which isn't that unusual.

this does happen and can be confused with oil.
water/moister gets in the pipe and mixes with all the carbon build up and spurts out the exhaust and gets all over the rear bumper. not to mention typically beat to hell D series smoke gets mixed in there and doesnt help.
according to my buddies its known as "the black bumper club"
