ok, i have an eg hatch and one day it just wouldnt start. it started fine just minutes before. when i turn the key there is no sound. not even a click. i have checked my starter and know it is bad from putting a wire on it to start it. i have replaced my ignition switch so i know that is not the problem and checked all my fuses. i am about to replace the starter. once it does start from dumping the clutch, it runs perfectly. if you know a fix or had the problem yourself please help me out!!!

Well if you checked the started and it turned out to be bad. I would assume that is your issue.
When you go to get the new starter they will check your old one for free. Then you will be able to at least determine if your starter is truly bad.

thanks man but the starter was fine when the problem first started. it just recently went bad. i took it to oreilly and had it checked and they said it was bad. by the time i got around to replaceing the ignition switch the starter was already bad so im not sure if it was, if fact, the ignition switch and now just the starter is bad, or just something else all together. but again, thanks

How old is your battery? Try opening one of the cells and looking inside, if it's bone dry. Then you need a new one :thumb:

I drove my missus home from work, dropped her off outside her house, went to start up and my car clicked and died. Then nothing, took key out, tried to start again but nothing at all, not a sound or anything, my battery was 5 months old, I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the problem was, checked every fuse. All fine. Had to be starter motor that crapped out, I was so fucking angry I was slamming the bonnet and shit, then I found out my battery was completely dead, I felt like a right moron lol.

My battery was only 5 months old! Must of been dodgy or something, cause I've since replaced it and it's running fine.

But that was my experience. To test if it is the battery, sit in your car and put the ignition to on, leave your door open so the interiour light is on and then put your hazard lights on, if you get a buzzing sound, your battery is dead.

What he said, also go around your engine bay looking at all your earth wires, check if there's any loose or shit, another problem with another car I had was a shitty connection for one of the earth wires comming from the engine on the left, under your intake.

If nothing works, your theory is proberly right about what you did to the starter. You may of fucked the coil?

When you put the ignition to the 2nd position, do the electrics on the dash work?
