Civic EG

Hey all just got 92 dx sedan. I have a 94 dx hatch as a donor car now. I plan on swapping my engime manual trans and manual steering rack into the sedan. The sedan is currently auto and has a power rack in it. What am i going to have to do to make all this work? Also what maintenance should i do while the motor and trans are out? Also maintenance to the sedan while there is no motor in it? Trying to cover all my bases before i comense the build. Thanks in advance!!

your going to need an auto to manual trans swap mount. the trans mount bracket in the auto eg cars sits higher in the bay.
and since youre gonna be swapping the racks, it would also be a good time to do new tie rods. and with the engine out youll have easier access to the subframe. could do new bushings.

while swapping the rack you can do tie rods and said above. having the motor out will make the swap alot easier. it is possible to swap manual racks with the drivetrain still in the car but i dont think it would be possible to go from power to manual. also youll need to get an alighnment afterwards.

the radiators are going to be different(auto one has cooler built in) but you dont need to swap them. id pick the one thats in the best shape and use it.

timing belt, tensioner, and water pump are easier to do when the engine is out and it is highly recommended that you replace those parts prior to installing the engine.

if the oil pan is leaking, do the gasket.

and like Juls said, youll need an auto-to-manual transmission mount. so you might aswell go for a whole set of new mounts like Innovative Mounts. i have them in my coupe and i highly recommend them

and of course, a new clutch/flywheel/pressure plate/thowout bearing. and might aswell throw a new slave cylinder on there too

Ok so i need the manual subframe from the hatch along with the steering rack and that should bolt up to the sedan frame? Any recomended brands for clutch/flywheel? Keep in mind im on a pretty tight budget and have a small window of time to complete the swap. Thanks!!

im not sure about needing the subframe swap. i was always under the impression that either rack will work on either subframe.

if you arent doing a performance build so to speak then you shouldnt need anything other than OEM replacement for the clutch/pp/flywheel

either rack will work, its the bushing and the bracket that differs between manual and power racks.

it goes over swapping an integra rack into an EG, but the same stuff applies for swapping from one civic rack to another, except for using the integra ujoint.

This is actually over budget but hopefully i can get my wife to be ok with it lol...any thoughts?

yes on the mount and the clutch, but i would be cautious about using the tie rod set. with tie rods you get what you pay for.
also, don't forget to get a flywheel and mounting bolts. the auto trans bolts aren't long enough to fully engage the threads

shows the difference between the flywheel mounting bolts(long ones) vs the torque converter mounting plate bolts(short ones)

also, you'll need to swap the pedals over. the brake and gas pedal are one unit, and the clutch pedal is a separate one. you can get away with not swapping the brake/gas pedal assembly, but you'll have to trim the brake pedal down, and the fit wont be as good.

The nice thing is you obviously don't have to worry about sourcing out anything but that auto to manual mount as you have the hatch donor with everything you need. bolts and all.
