well lads bit of a problem thats annoying me. whenever i lock the steering wheel to the left ,like if im taking a left turn, and im stopped and in 1st gear. i take off no bother but when i clutch in to change to 2nd gear a loud knock noise comes. any no what this could be and i dont thinmk its a c.v joint coz my brother checked them and said they seemed okm but his not a mechanic.

did you check inner tie rod ends?

a quick way, but not very technical is to lift the car up on jack stands and see if the wheel/tire has a decent amount of play in the travel side to side. you could also check the boots on the steering rack,
if they're torn, then chances are water, dirt, and grit got in and stiffened it up. so when you turn, that knocking noise would be the inner tie rod trying to move, but its all rusty. so it makes the "knock".
they're could be other ways of checking though, someone will chime in.
