Smog Failed!!! Help

So took the Hatch to get it smog for ownership transfer here in CA. Yes, it sucks and the new 2013 rules doesn't make smog check any easier. :x

Here are the results:

% CO2 MEAS = 10.5 @ 15mph, 8.1 @ 25mph
% O2 MEAS = 0.1 @ 15mph, 0.0 @ 25mph
------------------
HC (PPM)
MAX @ 15mph = 96
MAX @ 25mph = 79

GP @ 15mph = 312
GP @ 25mph = 262

MEAS @ 15mph = 193
MEAS @ 25mph = 292
------------
CO (%)
MAX @ 15mph = .59
MAX @ 25mph = .51

GP @ 15mph = 2.34
GP @ 25mph = 2.23

MEAS @ 15mph = 6.41
MEAS @ 25mph = 10.10
-------------
NO (PPM)
MAX @ 15mph = 859
MAX @ 25mph = 798

GP @ 15mph = 2088
GP @ 25mph = 1888

MEAS @ 15mph = 277
MEAS @ 25mph = 54

FAILED!!!! :x :x :x

So NO(PPM) passed as it is below the max allowed.
Failed on HC(PPM) @ 25mph as it is above the allowed required 262.
Failed on CO(%) on both. Is this my Exhaust CAT that needs to change or the exhaust can?

I am confused at the moment as the following items were changed.
* Water Pump, Timing Belt, Change all coolant sensors (T stat, Sensor Switch near the T Stat, Assembly switch), flush the coolant, oil pan, spark plugs, adjust the valves.

What I noticed under the car: The exhaust sure do need to change out due to rust and holes, but can this cause a major reading for failure?

Also, the tech mention that my tires are causing the rpm issue as well. stock VX rims are suppose to be 165/70R13, but it has 175/70R13. This is throwing off the reading on the dyno. I can see why, but can this little make a difference to cause a visual fail and reading?

I have (2) weeks to fix the issue so i don't need to pay $121 for smog again. Please help!!!

Thanks Teal. I read that thread after posting it up. Hoping it is the O2 sensor or FPR only.

Will update all soon but going to drop it off to the mech to inspect and smog for cheaper.

Lesson learn = always check how much smog is at the shop before just signing off. [smilie=BangHead.gif]

Got it passed!!!! :woot:

What pissed me off is paying for the first tech who didn't know crap about a special engine like the 1.5 VX :x

My mechanic said, the failed report didn't make sense and the rpm was weird. Instead of being rich, the car is lean due to engine ability to save gas.

I even checked the timing (twice) and did a compression test. All passed with flying colors.

But what did fail is the O2 sensor. Did you know it cost $375+ for an OEM!!! :x
