#80309 Some of you may know that I've just bought my first EG (1993).

The exhaust/backbox on my Civic sounds lush when idling ... (it is loud though - straight through pipe)

However, when I begin to rev and get to the mid-to high end rev range ... f**k me does it sound crap! Sounds like a over-powered high pitched rattlely ped!

Like I say, when it idles - it sounds nice and low and gives a nice deep/mean sound - sadly that sound doesn't remain throughout as you'd expect it to when increasing the rpm's.

I want to replace it!

I need advice on exhaust systems or backboxes that give decent sounds throughout! I quite like deep/agressive sounds, like the Impreza's - aything that can get close to that I'm all ears, or any recommendations really.

Also would I be able to change the backbox only and add it to the pipe already there or replace the pipe too? Or put a cat in so it's not so loud or?

I've heard of magnaflow but that's it. Whether they're decent or not I'm not sure. The backbox I have is 4" in size. I have no idea what it is, it was on the car when I bought it!

I don't like it overly loud as when going through town, I don't want attention because of the horrendous noise coming from the car lol. However I wouldn't mind attention if the noise sounded like it had a bit of power and anger to it rather than sounding like a dodgey moped!

Thanks (hope this is in the right section) :thumb:

#80311 A cat will definitely help muffle the noise. For a muffler, there's plenty to choose from. But be ware of ebay exhausts... when it comes to generic exhausts, you get what you pay for!

#80364 the best exhaust i've had is the GReddy Evo 2, low and quiet and when it revs it dosent have the raspy sound of ebay or like tanabe and such. but it is expensive. but like teal_dx said, you get what you pay for. :thumb:

#80417 Not running a cat sounds horrible.

2.25 inch diameter pipe, a catalytic converter, a resonator, and a straight through design muffler are what you're looking for. I recommend Magnaflow for the resonator and muffler. As for the cat converter, get anything OTHER than Magnaflow.

But there are many other good brands out there. Any decent resonator and the biggest muffler you can get will give you a deeper, throaty sound. If the pipe is too big you get that raspy, buzz can sound typical of so many Hondas.

#80476 Cool, thanks people I'll look into that.

Mis-matching the cat to the resonator and the muffler wouldn't cause a problem would it or have any alteration to the noise?

Thanks
