This is OK ... but the best way to mount roof racks on the Hatchbacks and Coupes are the ones with the intermediate 'short bars' that allow the rear bar to sit further back on the vehicle and allow more stability for your load.

Here is a TERZO/TYPUS rack on my 94 Civic Hatchback. TERZO is a Japanese rack mfr that was present in North America during the 90's, but basically gave up their market share here to the more dominant Thule and Yakima. They are the OEM supplier for Honda, under the brand TYPUS.

In the 8 years since I purchased the car, I've rarely had it off.

#175081 There was one on my car when I bought it. It had rubbed through the paint in several huge rectangular blocks on the roof of the car. It damaged the weather stripping on the side windows. Also left an indentation on the roof.

I say hell no.

#175089 ^^ Well, I've had mine on my car for 8+ years (straight) -- and haven't had any of those problems. Doubtless your experience with the previous owner's rack is a combination of rack type/brand and user error.

#175290 yeah mine (yakima) has these really soft clear rubber pads. Nothing metal or plastic touches the car. n\Not possible to scratch the car. The only problem I had with it was if you don't shut the door hard enough it will make it leak a little where they mount at the top of the door

#295411 I'd hate for you to put something heavy in that rooftop contraption - you'll be dragging your ass on the pavement if you do with that lowered suspension. I guess it would come in pretty handy though if you have a large load of pool noodles to transport.

if you use it for what its made for(bikes boards ect) then yeah sure but if u use it for show:thumbdown:

i considered making a homemade one with a basket when i was shamefully putting my car through the ratrod faze... i was gunna do what the veedub guys do and put a bunch of random stuff in it or put a shopping cart basket on it  but I didnt. and im glad.

seems these days people put racks on just to cover them with stickers and call it jdm
