#189634 Ok where I live everyone always has issues with rusting, and to help minimal the chances of developing further rust, when i fix up the rust i have now i was thinking on replacing certain metal bolts with plastic ones of some sort, cause when you think about it, if someone is gonna hit a body panel then metal bolts or not and you're fucked.

Anyone know if any certain types would be good for this? think it's a good idea maybe? cause well, less metal on metal = less chances of rust right?

#189872 i think its a cost thing.

Plastic may be cheaper by the pound but to produce the forms and quantity of plastic nuts and bolts isnt feasible to auto manufactures when they already have access to a variety of metal.

it must be a shitty grade of stainless. my exhaust is 304 stainless and i have had it on my car through 2 winters. also have lots of hardware that is stainless that hasn't rusted. i have only seen rusted stainless once, it wasn't really rusted, started to see some spots, that was some equipment we installed in a food grade processing plant where they blasted everything with some high acid cleaning solution. the acid wasn't the problem, the problem was that when we built it rubbed on our mild steel benches and embedded it self into it.
