#213449 93 Hatch. Has the ac system and all parts. just no freon. Ive got the R12 connections. How would i go about making this work? Would i have to convert everything? Or can i just ad R134a?

#213459 are you trying to stay R12 or converting?

if your converting i believe you just need the fittings. and R134 freon

Well considering its like impossible to find r12 now ill convert it. But ive heard i can contaminate the system if i add r134a because there can still be traces of r12?

#213492 When dealership had the recall in 1994, they swapped out my condenser when they did the recall work too. Maybe recall is still in effect, doubt it though.

how would i go about doing that? Ive asked a couple shops in the past and they said they do not do that. hmm... good thought though!

#213557 Don't believe the theory that R12 is gone. Some shops (very little) still perform this service, but they have to be certified.

Call around, or better yet. Try to find a old school (hot rod) shop as most of them still us R12 system.

I know I have a shop here in Bay Area that still does it. :thumb:

#213771 If you are converting it and can perform the work yourself, it would be a good idea to replace ALL of the o-rings in the system with ones compatible with r-134a, plus this should fix any possible leaks you may have had. If there is no freon in the system, there is a reason there is no freon in the system. Either it leaked out or someone opened the system up. However, if you do this, be prepared to replace the reciever drier, and expansion valve/orifice. If you open the system up, these are things that must be replaced, and really should be replaced anyways.

If you are just trying to get it working on the cheap, just get the retrofit valves and charge her up, but its probably going to leak out.

And like previously stated, there are still shops out there that can charge up r12, its still around, its just expensive and you have to have a license to handle it.
