#296936 So the back passenger side door wont open from the inside or outside. The outside door handle is broken for sure. Its probably the pivot point where the spring is at. So that leaves either the inside handle wont open due to the child safety lock or the latch mechanism is broken.

Either way I need to remove the inside panel to get to it. I removed the inside door handle, pull handle, and manual window roller. Problem now is I cant pop the plastic clips off to push the panel up and off the door.

Say I just dremel cut the panel off. Will I be abled to get the latch mechanism to open the door? There seems to be 3 large screws holding the latch mechanism on the insdie door jam. How does the lock mechanism work (what do I need to do to it to get it to un-latch)?

#296937 ok what i would say is take the back seat out should be able to pop it off but i wouldnt dremel the door panel unless you have a spare i would suggest if anything dremeling the outer door handle would be best to be able to get enough area to get inside and reach the part to push down....

#296939 back seats arent in the way. the trim around it kinda is, but not really.

I looked at it again and it seems the child safety lock is on. when i pull the inside handle i hear nothing. i tested on the other door and with the safety on you hear nothing. with it off you hear mechanical noises.

ill probably try breaking/cutting the outside handle first and pull on the rod.

if that doesn't work i might try to unbolt the door from the pivot side and see if that gives me enough room to switch the child safety lock off.

#296941 Had this same issue with mine. I got my new exterior handle and by looking at the new one you can see where it bolts in. Take a drill and drill through the old exterior handle where it bolts in. The handle should be able to be pulled out once you've drilled the mounts off of it. Once you've got it pulled out a little you should be able to open the door by pushing down on the rod connected to the handle. Open the door, remove the panel, and install the new handle.

#297187 thanks. that sounds better than randomly cutting it out. ill get a replacment first then.

#301828 pulled a door handle and latch mechanism from the junk.

was able to use the one i pulled out the located the 2 mounting locations. the locations are on both sides of the handle. right in the middle of the 2 large plain smooth areas. drilling it won't do much. the mount brackets are a 1" diameter. i dremmel cut all around it and broke it off with a flat head screw driver. note that the bolt towards the center of the door can easily be removed with a 10mm socket wrench. do it. the bolt way inside by the latch mechanism cannot be reached. to get to that bolt you have to open the door. remove the 3 screws holding the latch mechanism and remove the 2 metal rods from the latch mechanism that run to the lock and inside door handle. then from the outside of the door pull the handle out and bend the bracket out. this will give you access to the 2nd bolt with a 10mm wrench from the outside.

my door handle was broken in the pivot spring area. like most civic door handles do. i was lucky i bought the latch as well at the junk because the child safety was broken as well. i replaced the door handle and latch mechanism and now my door works again!
