#80444 Hey first post, saw this forums and I was instantly drawn to it. Help me feel welcomed!

Anyways, beside the cliche entrance, my hatch has a loose shifter. Recently I got under my car to change the bushings. When I brought down the shifter there was a rubber casing that was ripped, maybe that's the reason? I honestly have no idea but I'd like to know what to do what to do and buy before I install my short shifter soon. Thanks!

you talking about #7 in the pic? it is a dust cover, it covers up the hole in the floor around the shifter. about $15 at your dealership :thumb:

#80472 did you replace the shifter bushing? you said bushing but weren't specific, the shifter bushing is part #17 in the pics Teal posted

#80483 I think he might be talking about #11 cause when I changed my shifter #11 was torn to pieces..I still made it work but it will need to be replaced eventually.

That could possibly be the part because it holds the metal piece (#9) to the stabilizer..so it might be loose because of that. Shouldn't be too costly to replace from honda.

Let us know

#80566 well your best bet would be that you should buy the energy suspension shifter bushing kit i think i paid 10-12$'s for the kit and replaced the stock stuff with the polyurethane bushings. when I put in my short shifter its your best bet to get rid of a sloppy shifter.

#80579 Thanks for all the welcomes!

Yeah, I think it was #7. Does anyone know if that effects anything? I replaced #17, 15, and 20, but I'm sure thats not the problem because I had a loose shifter before I installed the new ones.

Maybe #17 is the problem, hopefully? Do you know what that part is called?

BTW this forum should rig up a quick post feature, so I can quote everyone more easily.

#80586 17 has nothing to do with how the shifter feels. 11, 17 and 15 are the only parts that will make you shifter sloopy or loose. You might also want to check the rear motor mount, under the Intake manifold.

#85731 Damn, I checked it out again, no luck. I mean the shift works fine, it's just loose. When it is in gear, I'm still able to wobble it.

Any other tips ya'll? Thanks.

#85738 Well...the shifter does have normal play when in gear, if it's only an inch or two it's no big deal :eh:

Lol, yeah I know :D . If it's in gear, it still feels like a limp dick.

It's strange, If I push it into the right side (5th/reverse), I can feel the stiffness as if it's fine, But the first 4 gears are straight up loose.

#85742 Yeah, I'm guessing mine has the exact same feel as yours, I wouldn't be concerned.

My mom's '90 Mustang GT Cobra has a TIGHT ass transmission, barely any shifter play and the gates are a lot closer than our civic transmissions.

It just varies from tranny to tranny man, don't fret.

#85748 Don't get me wrong, I do know how a stock car feels. Mine feels abnormally loose.
