I hope you don't take this wrong, but coming from an aircraft mechanic, you might want to put a little more space between the steel of the fender and the exhaust stack you have there. Mofo is going to get hot. Quick. And I think your exit location would look even better if you weld the doubler to the fender.

If you want, I can snag some pull type rivets we use on airplanes and mail them to you. They're structural grade, and will hold better than the pop rivets in your coinslot fasteners and heat shield.
Thanks man. I actually need to trim it a bit, and after that, it'll sit just inside the fender where it shouldn't have any clearance issues. I was actually going to use some aircraft rivets. I have some up at the hanger about 40 miles away. My other hobby is flying. After this is up and running i'm going to focus on finishing an Acrosport II aerobatic bi-plane that my grandfather and i started a few years back before he passed away.

BLaCkSiLo wrote:^^^ yeah dude that sounds like a good plan, shit is going to get hot right there, especially since it's the full exhaust being vacated so close to the turbine. i love the uniqueness man, such a cool and different d-series build!

one question, with the turbo that low in relation to the oil pan, how are you going to run the drain line?
It sits just high enough, that with the return line on, it's just slightly sloping. Enough for gravity to do it's thing. Not to mention a tad bit of forward motion down the 1320 ;)

Fuck yeah man, airplanes rock! Solid shank, or Cherry-Max, or what?

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. I imagine he had some amazing stories to tell about his time.

I'm guessing you have your pilot's license (although I know a few people who fly experimental class that don't have their licenses), so what are you certified in?

For sure! haha Solid shank, flat head ones.
Thanks. Haha oh yeah. Tons of good stories. Flying has been in my family for a long ass time haha, my great great great gramps i think it was, built gliders that they towed behind horses to get up in the air haha.

I don't have it yet. I'm going to start working at it again, My gramps was a flight instructor along with his single engine, multi engine, instrument ratings. So i logged many hours with him the last few years that i could. He's always been into homebuilts/experamentals and has built many. We tor down this acrosport that he bought to completely rebuild it, when he got sick. So it was never finished. i'm now going to take on the project, mean while getting my lisence, and learning to land a tail dragger :P

#211316 Good luck with the tail dragger! I taxi'd a Cessna 150 tail dragger once. Ground loop is not fun. Of course, I later found out that it had a botched Cleveland brake conversion gone wrong and the right side brake was all but seized...

Anyways, hope to see some more updates soon!

#211596 ^^^Agreed!!

quick question. I'll take a wild guess and say that there is no A/C (obviously) and you will mostly have to roll with the window down. but the exhaust exit is right there on the drivers side. so is it to safe to say the hatchie is the weekend warrior?!
