Turbo and Supercharger discussion

#233785 If your talking about the vitara setup for single cam. Ive been running it for the past year. It runs good on that compression and lets you boost more. It all depends on what you want from the motor.

just an example.
High compression with turbo, quicker spool, less boost, less room for error
low compression with turbo, slower spool, more boost, more room for error

#234046 D-series motors have a small bore which is very good at resisting detonation. Why do you think motorcycles can run 12 - 13:1 CR on pump gas. If you are having someone else tune your car ask them what CR they are comfortable would give them a big enough margin for error. I personally am running a 10.2:1 turbo motor and have yet to have any issues with it, other than some slight leaks, but that's from the high mileage (~200k) not the compression. If you get it tuned right it won't bust open.

On a d-series motor I wouldn't hesitate to run 9.5 - 10.5:1 CR with boost (on pump gas) with a competent tuner doing the work. If I was going to do it myself I would probably try to keep it around 9:1.

Like I said it's all in the tune you can turn a completely stock motor into a grenade if you fuck the tune up.
