thanks a bunch man... it was a lot of work!

well..some updates!
i changed the oil with full synthetic and a bosch oil filter for the first time:

and i have been chasing my trunk water leak for several months now, i siliconed like crazy, the taillights and the left side air vent and sunroof drain tubes:
Image

Image

i think that's about it for now, my oil temperature gauge was giving wacky readings on my way to seattle but i found out the problem was a bad ground on my sandwich plate...solved that :thumb:

soon i will be replacing several exhaust gaskets and painting my turbo manifold... probably this weekend, still smells inside the cab

#187096 well so i got a little frisky this weekend and decided to take off my turbo/mani/downpipe to replace all the exhaust gaskets, fix the turbo oil feed and drain lines along with some random hosing...

beginning taking off turbo, can see black soot/oil on the block:
Image

ugly

before painting the mani:

after painting the manifold:
Image

so i JB-Welded the cracks around the 5-bolt flange:
Image

after painting.... i like the way things turned out
Image

i made my own 5-bolt flange gasket, sucked pretty much a lot to make:

.

.

everything all put back together and running:
Image

my dumptube opens right onto my power steering pump and this proves that my car has seen full boost quite a bit 8)

here is all the gaskets i replaced, i also fixed my drain and feed fittings for the turbo:

#187101 yo i was drivin down the raod the other day and something just poped in my head about the exhaust fumes in your cabin

have you check the rubber cover that covers the shifter as it comes from under the car??

nice paint work, looks good

#187145 Your Exhaust parts are looking good. I hope it lasts, My OEM DX header eats through 800 degree paint in a 30 min drive. I am sure your Turbo Manifolds will get hotter then my oem cast header.

Your Coupe keeps getting nicer and nicer. :thumb:

thanks for the advice man, i will check that out, i'm pretty sure they were gay gaskets but we'll see once that paint smell burns off :D

#193677 so it has been a little while... right after the gasket change i went to PIR and ran an autocross track during novice school which was a blast...

here were some pics:
Image

here were my time cards: managed to almost shave time off every run, we got 20 of them which was kickass
Image

Image

so more problems: my dash light in the climate control burnt out but i ordered some LED's to replace them from superbrightleds.com.. 2 for the climate control and 2 for my AUTOMETER gauges:

Image

Image

and i blew out the 2 gaskets that i just replaced:

i ordered these from gaskets from Cometic.. i hope they can hold up this time...

Image

so guess i will be dropping my turbo yet again this weekend, don't use Fel-Pro's sheet of gasket material for the actual manifold, i'm assuming it's meant to be used for collector gaskets and such..

#193689 exhaust looks great.
haven't visited this build in months.
amazing progress, all in all how much did it cost to boost it?

but the real question...whats next?

This Summer Me and My Close Friends will be doing tons of Barbecues, Meets and Mountain Runs, Alot on Black Diamond Road. If thats to far off, we have Closer roads we Run on as well. If you want to come up a Weekend we can have a BBQ, then Head up and doing a loop or two of our Mountain Runs, When we get back you can crash at my place for the night then head back to Oregon in the morning.

thanks man, although it's a pretty shitty route job by the guy who ran the exhaust, he told me that it was going to be great and well..it's not but o well it works for now...

i was lucky in the fact that my dad has a shop where i can do all of my own work. i pulled the engine, re-built it and boosted it all in his shop so i only had to buy parts which were probably around $1000 cause i got some sick deals 8)

so what's next is: fix the interior rattles (drive me nuts)
think about getting a 2.5" DP so i can run A/C >> BIG MAYBE
Paint and body work
New suspension/New wheels and tires (too big, too rough of ride)

what i really wanna do is sell it and get an EK Sedan (99-00) either LX or EX and put my boosted motor in there and keep or get a/c!

yeah man, seems that way... i'm just going to drive it for a while and see how she does. i have put about 9000 miles on the engine in about 9 months or so (i don't really drive much at school) and the engine is strong. I mean i rip on it a lot...i'm not easy on the girl :hehe:

what's up man.. yeah the car is running good. i'm just logging the miles although i don't drive much here down at school. i checked out that route you had setup, looks pretty sweet man, is it pretty windy and nice curves? i would love to come up there and run it with you guys and kick it one of these weekends, i'm assuming you work during the week? this is week 9 at school and i graduate on June 12th and moving back to Portland i'm assuming until i find a job. lets plan on a weekend in June when the weather should be decent?

and i'm pretty much for sure going to the D-Series meet on the 5th of June, i'm gonna try and get a few of the Portland-ers from d-series to meet up at jantzen beach and drive up with me, maybe we could stop at a gas station and meet you too? let me know about that...

#207518 so it's been a while:

***i blew the lower radiator hose about 3 weeks ago sitting in the heat and traffic which was fun by the way...
so i have the aluminum radiator and the hose is a very tight fit, can i get a b series one or one that is larger in diameter?

so another update...

i replaced my starter cause about every 5-25 times i turned the key it would start (bad solenoid on the starter) plus it was getting pretty weak so i replaced it but now it grinds at the end of the cranking process with the NEW starter, is that normal for a while??
