Connected all the harness together. No Engine Light staying on after 1 sec when it is turned on position.

Here is the thing:
When turn key to On, I hear 1 click, then 1 click after when the engine light turns off.

So the main relay looks like it is working. But I am suspecting it is the fuel pump now. I don't hear a hmm sound. Is it suppose to be pretty loud or is there a way for me to test the fuel pump?

:x

fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail will tell ya if your getting pressure or not

if you have a extra body you could have someone kick or hammer the bottom of the tank to see if you can get it to run sometimes that gets the pump going temporarily

Fuel pressure gauge will be great to have but don't have one handy to install on the rail.

I will dig up some thread to see if there is a DYI on testing the pump. Don't want to order a pump when it isn't the pump even if it isn't priming.

check your fuel pump fuse and relay and also if you get in the tank check for powers and grounds if you go that far

#205281 just unbolt the 12mm bolt on the fuel filter and turn the car to the 'on' position and it should spray fuel out(the fuel pump priming, which is the hummm you hear from the FP).. if it does the fuel pump is good

#205282 Thanks all. That is the thing, I remember hearing it when I first posted this issue, but not I don't think I hear it when i turn the key to On.

So here is what I got from the manual on fuel pump. It doesn't tell you how to check the fuel pump beside testing if there is electrical firing to the pump.

Is there a way to test the resistance of the fuel pump itself? If not, then I will have to do the fuel filter trick.

unless you have a DMM(digital mutli meter) reads ohms, volts, resitant

but id try that fuel filter thing.. when the car is in the 'on' position the fuel pump primes the system and pressurizes it.. so if there is no fuel coming out its bad.. but have you takin out the main relay and looked at the solders on the back side??

#205295 No, I haven't taken the main relay out as I heard the clicking 1st when turn on and 2nd after the check engine light turns off (about 2 seconds).

I do understand the main relay can still be the cause of the problem, and i will check on that first before the fuel filter trick.

will report back soon.

when mine quite it still clicked but the contacts inside were no good so it would not power anything.

#205336 I have a 92 hatch with stock Eng I would be willing to part some stuff off the engine if you need a distributor or something.

#205428 Thanks Torch! Haven't got around to checking the fuel filter and the main relay due to work being so crazy today. Will try to get around it tomorrow. And thank you for helping out.

#205479 i have a similar problem..but the engine eventually starts ....when trying to start the engine it would crank hesistanlty til i turn the engine back off and try again... at times i would do have to perform this procedure several times before the car would start up and there are other times when the car starts up right away..i've narrowed it it down to my starter needing a bit of servicing( don't have the time yet ) ...could it be anything else?

#206126 some update:

Changed out the fuel pump, but before doing so, I removed the back seat and the cover to the fuel pump. Turn the key to On and i heard the priming. It was a soft prime but since I got a new fuel pump, i switched it out.

Changed the fuel filter since I have no idea how long this was changed or when it was changed.

Switch to a new Main Relay. But it doesn't hurt to have one handy if the old one still works.

Set the timing back to 0 and installed back the distributor. Tried to crank but it doesn't seem to have enough power to turn over the engine.

So now i am charging the battery to make sure all power is there to turn over the engine. Arg! What a pain to find out what the heck is wrong with the engine!!! :x

Question:
Will the starter be a problem if my timing is still "0" after cranking the engine?

yup, switched and changed the distributor (all items), changed the spark plug and wires, changed oil and now i am wondering if it is the injectors.

I will need to find my voltmeter and test resistant.

#207344 Ok, been a long week with work and haven't got the time to work on the car until a little today.

So pulled the spark plugs out and discovered all four cylinder is flooded with gas. So my injector does work but still will check the resistance to make sure they are strong or up to spec.

Question:
1. What happens when fuel flood the cylinders? I am airing it out but is there something else i can do or check?

2. I assume this is one reason why i can't start the car with gas flooding the cylinder?

Any help or suggestion please.
