D15B -non VTEC- Head Gasket

After lurking around here for what would seem like days, i finally got myself an account, and am ready to become a permanent member. But this thread isn't about placing me into this world, but instead of a more simple question.

I got my car nearly 6 months ago, after long aspirations to get the '92 civic hatch. Found one for pretty cheap, picked it off a girl, i asked her about the upgrades done; she claims not to have done anything but maintenance, and the rest of the work is from the previous owner.
I investigate.
Long story, just a bit shorter. The D15B7 i expected to find under the hood is actually a D15B (non vtec). After driving around a bit, i also find that the coolant looks funky, with a film of oil like substance. So i figure i need a new head gasket. I found the thread that instructs how to, so all is well.
Only part i stutter with is which headgasket to use?
I have been told a D16Z6 would fit, but a D16Y8 is a better fit. (when talking about the D15B VTEC)
I would assume that the difference between VTEC and non VTEC gasket should be nearly non-existant.
First time im taking on a somewhat serious project.
Any last minute advice?

any d seires gasket will work
d15b7 gasket is thicker than a z6 head gasket and a z6 headgasket is thicker than a y8
if you got a little bit of money i would do a mini me swap
(putting a vtec head on a non vtec block )
if you just wanna repair the gasket then get a complete gasket kit
off ebay
i have used several from ebay and they havnt let me down dispite what other ppl might say
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-95-1- ... ccessories
thats what i have used before
ohh and welcome to the best civic forum in the world :woot: :woot: :woot:

thank you thank you
Happy to be here :thumb:
will go look around town if i can pick up a Y8 then... if not, i'll grab an ebay set.

I have considered the mini-me swap, and it looks like a good project, but initially i wanna try doing the head gasket, and then maybe later do the mini-me, because quite honestly, can't afford much right now... :(

i would suggest buying a y8 head gasket as it will yeild at 9.8 to 1 compression wich might give that d15b a little more pep but not much probably wont be much to notice but i say go for it
