Hey guys and gals looking for a point in the right direction here. So my car is an auto 93 EX Coupe and I want to keep it single cam. Now the motor is high in miles so I was thinking of a swap. Now I've herd great things about the D15B and the ZC SOHC but I was thinkin Z6 with the Y8 head and thinner head gasket for slight bump in compression. Now I will continue to search for more facts but just seeing what the D series community at large thinks. On a side note possibiliety the motor will get turbo on a few pounds for daily fun. Thanks again for any help.

stock the best motor seems to be the JDM d15b.

I like the D16z6 because they are common and you can find them for cheap.
JDM D15B is also a good choice.

as said above either a z6 or a JDM d15b are the most fun

I prefer the z6 also. But looking at motor statistics alone, ignoring price etc. the d15b would be the preferable motor. That said, the z6 is pretty much the same thing only much more common :thumb:

Alright well I agree on the Z6 being common and from what I read the 2 are pretty much the same except one is 1.5 and the other is 1.6 but I was thinking of using the y8 head and thinner head gasket on the d15b which should give me around 10/1 compression if all the posts are correct. Plus an imported d15 should have way less miles then what I'm working with now and it should be more beneficial. Thanks guys for the quick reply's though.

definatly a d16z6 only because like teal says they are freakin everywhere and are almost the same thing as a d15b. yea the d15b is a gnarkey motor because its less diplacement and makes the same power but the availabilty of these parts compared to a z6 is a down fall. also i hear the d15b is very rev happy but i still stand by the z6

My hatch has a d15b
and my coupe has a z6
My d15b seems more aggressive I can feel more torque
the z6 is about the same you feel more of the hp and less torque

Its more then just displacement, the JDM d15b SOHC VTEC has a better torque curve then the D16z6.

I Personally own multiple D16z6's. Best USDM SOHC made IMO. However not the best honda ever made. The best OBD1 D Series would be the JDM d15b SOHC VTEC,

The Best EVER D Series IMO is the JDM d15b 3stage VTEC. You have Vtec-E on the bottom end for better low end torque and then Performance vtec on the top end. Although the same HP as a z6 or y8 if you line them up with same car, weight, trannys and same drivers, the 3stage vtec will outpull the other D Series becouse of its better low end torque. Just like why an LS with b16 tranny outpulls a b16 with a b16 tranny. Better low end torque.

Also there should be no flaming on the site, if you see any flaming pm any of the Moderators or Admins and we will take care of it. This is something we dont want on our site.
