thanks so much.. this is indeed a most exellent site and forum..the reason is that i need to get a new snap ring..as the one that was initially on got damaged upon removal.. only to discover that one was not supplied by the parts store.

so i would like to know if i can use the car until i get the snapring.

I would not try it... if it were to move too much, it would be a disaster on the road.

this is true.. the driveshaft does float a bit.. is it possible that this could only be an "ease of installation" ring? u know.. the thing that keeps everything together while putting the boot into place.. but like u said lets not find out..
any damage to my EG would be regretable..

if you are talking about this ring, it is definitely a necessary piece. with out it, the axle can pop out of the transmission while you're driving. which sucks. trust me on this one lol.

Plus you would start to leak transmission fluid as soon as the axle slid out the slightest amount.
