So the thermostat is gone? in my car... The car overheats,therefor it dosen't open right ? I have a 78 degrees celcius and another number which is 94.6 on the thermostat that i have. Now its a USED thermostat cause the idiots up here have the same part number for a b18b1 as a d15b7 So i got a used one i had laying around from a blown engine...

My question is... What is that little thing that you can wiggle back and fourth that looks like a nail head on one end but is flattened on the other? Also when i install a thermostat do i have that pointing straight up or can a thermostat be put in upside down ? Also if iwas to dip the thermostat i plan on installing in a cup of boiling water how far should it open up?

Anyways i would love to get a bit more info on this,becuase i am getting the car inspected next week in hopes it will hit the road

Those idiots actually were right. D series and B series thermostats are the same and should have the same parts numbers.. ..

that lil brass piece is part of the pressure system when installed ..

and the way to install the thermostat, is the spring end point towards the motor. the arrow part towards the hose..

Also make sure that your fan turns on and you dont have any leaks on the hoses near the intake manifold... could be your fan switch... or your fan relay.. or air in the system but when u have air int he system, your idle usually goes up and down .. once warmed up.

Wow thank you for the reply.Now keep in mind i have had a civic and integra thermostat side by side before and the integra one is beefier. Thank you !!!! for the info i will go up and pick up the one i ordered a while back.So the arrow needs to point where you say? Also the rubber seal dosent come with a new thermostat does it ? Can i reuse my old one or buy a new one and avoid silicone or use my old one and avoid silicone.. I have a few things left to do and the car is ready for the road and this is one,along with my fitv and muffler

So that arrow between both number you are talking about. Is that the thermostat that i need to put her operating temp below half at all times ? I could of swore buddy ordered me a 198 farenheit ? What are the other number for anyways ?

Keep in mind i live in newfoundland,maybe our cars require a certain temperature thermostat.Reason i am making a big deal of this is becuase i ran my engine hot twice before becasue of that darn thing.

I've just changed my thermostat had problems with my old one, it got stuck slightly open.

The numbers i belive are when the stat opens and then closes, once the thermostat reaches that tempreture of 94.6 celcius, it opens allowing coolant to the radiator where it gets cooled.

Once its cooled to 78 celcius the thermostat shuts which stops coolant gettin to the rad and just circulates round the engine.

The "PIN" goes at the top to allow any air in the system to bleed out.

Yes always get a new Rubber gasket. if you use your old one it will possibly leak. always use silicone sealant and let it cure before you run the car and pressure build into the system..

and make sure to clean the mating surfaces really well before reinstallation too!!!! take a razor and remove the gunk that has built up on both ends of the thermostat housings..

never sued silicone.I used a new seal though it is an 82 degree one
