Safety of downshifting from 5th gear to 3rd gear

Is it safe on b16 engines to be going around 65 mph in 5th gear and then directly drop it into 3rd gear?
The previous owner did that when I was in the passenger seat to show off his cars acceleration.
(b16 sir II)
(We were in the country and the speed limit was 80mph)

I do it as long as he did not make it hit the rev limiter ur good

Should b fine. I go from 6th to 3rd gear all the time at 80mph. Just remember u need to rev-match.

It's pretty nice but hate paying for K-series parts.

i got the same motor in my hatch and i do that only when i have to. 3rd gear can go to 75mph before it hits revline, so you can but its kinda pointless.
