Parking lot battle wounds

- Wed Oct 21, 2009 12:08 am #151959 So someone left some nasty scrapes on my bumper while i was in class. Can you smooth out scratches on plastic or would i have to get a new bumper so make it look clean again? They get pretty deep :cry:

- Wed Oct 21, 2009 12:16 am #151960 not as bad as my 91 volvo 940se's battle wound somone backed up into it and i didnt relize it till i went to open the hood it was pushed back so much you couldnt open it. well ended up selling it for what i paid for it maybe a little more but yea i hate people who dont pay attention and screw up others stuff......but im not sure youll need a new bumper looks like it scratched to the primer should either try and see bout buffing it out or sanding out the scratches and using some filler to even everything out prime and paint...

only reason to replace your bumper is if it cracked or was gouged

If so, or if only the clear is gouged on yours, it can buff out.

- Wed Oct 21, 2009 4:29 am #152032 well if thats the other persons paint id try and buff it out first. then see what the result is like i said worse comes to worse just sand filler prime n paint....but yea see what you can do with a good buff or 2 first a bit less work

imo i always take pics if someone is parked next to me crooked or a little too close.


if you remember what the car looked like that was parked next to you i would go find that car and beat the shit out of it. i hate fucking people that hit and run.

I am not sure about how much a plastic welder costs, but they are fairly easy to use. You just need the right kind of plastic string and then you use a wand that plugs into a standard outlet and gets hot at one end, and you just sort of 'iron' the plastic into place. If you don't have anyone that would let you use theirs, then you're probably better off just getting a new bumper because even paying a shop to do it...you'll only come out in a deeper hole by a little bit by buying a new bumper and getting it painted...and spending a little extra for a brand new bumper is a better option in my eyes.
