#171601 hey guys im new to this site ive had my 1995 hatchback Si for a few months now and i recently got some new fog lights in but after about a week or 2 the relay started making some weird clicking noises and the fogs wouldnt light up anymore :? anyone encounter the same problem i got the fogs from k2 motor the jdm ones any help would be appreciated thanks

#171608 Can be a couple causes. if there is a short on the output side it will cause the relay to stress and make noise when the fog lights are powered. Also if the aftermarket lights draw more power then the factory units you may have to hook up a higher current relay to power them. I would think that if it was because they draw to much current it would have happened right away. It could also be a bare wire that shorts when it rains. I had a similar problem with my tail lights. The one side blew everytime it rained. took awhile to realise why because you don't realise its blown till it aint raining anymore.

#171654 Ooh ok and where could I find a bigger relay I've looked around here SD for some but no one has them

#171674 A standard relay would work you would just need to make sure your using a solid source with proper fusing. I would use the specified fuse rating that the fog lights call for and go right to the battery then. That way if it is a short it won't burn your car down

#171740 I see....I'm still a noob to electrical stuff so where would I get the standard relay...the fogd came with a 12v one? Is the the standard one bigger voltage? Junkyard maybe? Store?

#171745 That should work. I'll try to find a link that will easily show you what pin goes where. For now unplug the bulbs and if it still stresses the relay it's a short and a relay won't help

#171767 This should help. This is how you would install it using an aftermarket switch. The easiest way to add a relay would be to use the signal going to your fog lights from the factory switch. It will show 12v when the fog light switch is on. Then cut and rerout it. The car side would go to pin 86 and the side of the wire you cut that goes to the bulb would need to be connected to 87 the output of the relay. Pin 85 if your not familiar with a ground symbol would need to be connected to the negative of the battery or a bare metal surface of the car. I would suggest having a friend with some wiring experience help you as yo ucould burn your car to the ground if you do not properly fuse this.
