- Thu May 22, 2008 9:27 am #56299 It has finaly come down to choose... do I want to go dohc for power? or remain sohc to... well.. its cheaper... And I chose the Sohc route (sorry).. I just started working on my d16z6 I bought with 90k miles on it! YAY .. I am completely replacing every single gasket, cleaning the dirty ass motor, and might put in some stronger parts while im at it...
This is my Garage/ Work station.. its extremely tiny... but hey... its what I got...

The asian dude is my great bud Ken (he knows a lot more than me in car smartz) and the girl is my girlfriend .. she is building my engine stand

Now here is the motor! Tranny and everything... Here is the thing though... The guy I bought it off of said it came with everything.. including ECU!! .. there was no ecU! and not only that... but the freakin whole VTEC assembly was not there!! WTF ... but then I called him and he said he will send everything to me... bastard..
Another thing that pissed me off... a freakin engine mount bolt has been broken and rusted since no one has touched this engine for a while! freak! w/e... I'll fix it
Now its time to dismantle.......
YAY .. the disgusting tranny is off... time to clean..
Engine on stand... tight... tight...

I used my tiny ass air tank to use a dremel(probably spelt that wrong) to be a sander and sanded down my valve cover since I will be painting it red ... red on valve cover=+10hp ..
Here is the motor mostly cleaned up! Not the best job.. but im not done.. it is taking longer than i expected.....
TA DAH!!! .. so yeah.. its coming along slowly.. I am thinking about putting headers on instead of the stock exhaust ... and maybe even a new intake mani.. but IOno.. im broke.. my tax return came today so I am a little bit richer! YAY .. soon ... she will be strong!

- Tue Jun 03, 2008 3:20 am #57385 AHHH!! .. I didnt know rebuilding an engine would be this expensive! This is why I stuck with the D series.. dammit.. w/e ... I am rebuilding the d16z6 from bottom up... the only thing I am not replacing is the actual pistons and what not.. all the gaskets and piston rings and a few parts will all be new.. I am throwing out the old exhaust mani.. and I also added a few other things also... here we go!

My whole motor just about taken apart except the crank and what not... I hope I dont screw anything up when I take the pistons out... oh well.. this is the way we learn right?



When I took the head off... I was amazed.... in each cylinder.. it looked like some one had dumped a full cup of ash into each cylinder... I guess it was running rich?? So I took a vacuume to suck all that nasty crap off and wiped down the head of the pistons... Yes they are not shiny or what not.. but they are a 1000 times better than before.

I bought a few things... I got some cheapo headers.. but still just for fun ... I also got a B&M short shifter.. new piston rings.. new water pump and belt tensioner.. I also have a new timing belt but its not in the pic... A bunch of new gaskets and seals... and my favorite is the magnaflow muffler.. I did want catback... but I dont want that freakin fart can.. so after reading another topic on this site.. I got the magnaflow muffler..



and a messed up picture of my valve train.. it was also disgusting.. so I cleaned everything out... yeeeee ... O.o .. So everything is going well.. All I need now is freakin Head studs.. I dont want to put ARP head studs for a barely modified motor.. but thats all thats available.. god damit.. such a waste... w/e.. I need them.. I will keep you guys posted ha...

Yeah.. here is my civic at work.. I do graveyard security.. O.o I got bored and saw a tiny strobe light at pep boys.. best 20 bucks I spent...

here is the engine how it looks now.. fully rebuilt with new gaskets and bearings and blah blah.....



.... With some cheapo stainless steel headers.... it makes the engine look fucking awesome to me.. haha.. I painted the valve cover... I actually have half the mind to remove it and just remove the paint and polish it.

A really bad decision was to put ek fogs onto my eg...... They look decent from far away... but upclose... I despise them....Now I want a new front bumper hahaha.... thats the way we learn though right?

They are a million times brighter than the eg ones... but you have to aim them by manipulating how you cut the bumper O.o..... So word of advice to anyone who wants ek fogs on their eg.... Cut very precisely .. you will have to put some sort of inserts to make them flush with the bumper..... and they are way brighter than the eg fogs : D ....

As I watched the motor stay in one place and the engine bay become more empty.... I just felt... really good ...




I think the easiest part about rebuilding and working on my new motor... was the actual dropping.... I dropped my motor through the bottom because i saw a DIY on this site and learned from it hahaha.... so yeah... let me find more pictures now O.o....

I'm a Porsche girl but I may be taking over my mom's eg pretty soon, since she's looking to buy and new car so there'll be a purple 93 EX coupe up here soon and I've got my Porsche 944....anyway the swap on Brett's car is almost DONE!!! I'm proud my Brett is doing a good job with his first swap and we'll be trying the first turn of the key later today!
So wish us luck with the new motor, a ton of blood and sweat went into this little hatch and its finally about to be done!
YAY YOU CAN FINALLY DRIVE ME AROUND!!! <3
