- Thu Dec 23, 2010 2:03 pm #229460 so i thought it was kinda of dumb that DMV has a system where you cant retain your title until you wait 3 years? does anyone know why they have this kind of rule?

would it be because they (being DMV) not wanting you to trade/sell your vehicle within thoses years? i just want some input cause now im stuck with a car that i cant sell or trade because of this 3 year title thing.

Same here it usually takes a week 2get the title.

what they did say was that it was going to be in my name in the system, but i wont have a physical paper of the title until the 3 years is up which is kind of stupid.

cant you request for a copy of the title? we can do that here in Oklahoma they send you a copy of the title if you request it.

what the lady at the dmv told me was to get a notarized bill of sale from the person you traded your vehicle for, but that is a good question i should ask them in the morning tmr if i can get a copy of the title so that way i can at least sell or trade my vehicle.

- Fri Dec 24, 2010 6:56 am #229618 ive come across this before it happens when you trade or buy a car and dont get a title from the person you get the car from its a huge pain in the ass to deal with. the dmv wont give you a title for 3 years and if you try and sell or trade the car in that time it makes it even more difficult for the next guy and in some cases they mark the car as not titleable/registerable there for making it a parts carand not legal to be on the road after dealing with this i always make sure title is in hand before doing any buying or trading of my cars

- Fri Dec 24, 2010 9:50 am #229626 yeah i live and learn. -.- horrible mistake. i would say its a stupid rule though solely because the fact that its in your name doesn't it make it yours? since you transfered the title and what not?
